hat better blog to come back with, after a few months, than one about my childhood band, Busted.
Formed in 2000, English pop-rock band Busted hit the charts. The boys from Southend-on-Sea, Essex are James Bourne, Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson.
The band had four UK number one singles, two Brit Awards and released three studio albums selling over five million records.
Here are my top 3 favourite tracks.
Year 3000.
This track was released as the second single from their debut studio album, Busted. The song was written by James Bourne, Graham Jay and Steve Robson. It was inspired by band member James' obsession with the 1985 Sci-Fi film Back to the Future, hence the references to the "Flux Capacitor" and the time machine mentioned is "Like the one in a film I've seen".
What I Go to School For.
Written by James Bourne, Charlie Simpson, Graham Jay, Steve Robson, John McLaughlin and Richard Rashman. The song was inspired by a teacher that band member Matt had a crush on at school. Released in September 2002, the track reached number three in the UK singles chart. In the video for this track a young Jade Ewen appeared, a member of girl band Sugababes.
My final choice is:
Crashed the Wedding.
Released in November 2003, Crashed the Wedding was the lead single from the band's second studio album, A Present for Everyone. It was written by James and McFly's band member Tom Fletcher. The song became Busted's second number one single, selling 55,000 copies in the first week. It's loosely based on the scene in the 1967 film The Graduate. Also the line "I'm so rushed off my feet, looking for Gordon Street" is a reference to the 1993 film Wayne's World 2.
The band decided to split in January 2005 after Charlie left the band. Following their split, the boys went their separate ways and pursued solo careers. Charlie as the frontman for the post-hardcore band Fightstar, James as the lead singer of pop-punk band Son of Dork and Matt pursued a career as a solo artist.
