For all you Walking Dead fans Walker Stalker is a must!
Here at Newport City Radio we sent our own Xania Boreanaz and Tash Warren who were lucky enough to catch up with: The Govenor - David Morrissey. American Horror Story, but also from HBO's True Blood, Denis O'Hare and American Horror Story's - Dylan McDermott. We also had a chat with The UK's Negan Cosplayer: Doug Grant.
David Morrissey – The Governor – The Walking Dead
What drew you to the role of The Governor?
‘Well I love the show! I'd seen the show and I knew it was a really well run show. I didn’t know much about The Governor before I took it on. I just loved doing it really.’
What do you think The Governor would have done if he had met Negan in the show?
‘I think they probably join up in some way. They are two baddies obviously, I think they would have this mutual respect for each other, then they probably would betray each other. But I think they would probably join up.’
Denis O’Hare – American Horror Story
What drew you to the role?
‘I like weird things, I like monsters I was raised on monsters, I like Dracula, Frankenstein, werewolves. I like the fact that the guy was mysterious, Larry the first character. He was half burnt up.’
Dylan McDermott – American Horror Story
How did you prepare for the role of Dr. Ben Harmon in the first season of American Horror story?
‘Going to therapy for years prepared me for that role. Ben was really the worse psychiatrist ever, it wasn’t too hard as his advise was terrible.
Doug Grant – UKNegan
How did you choose to cosplay as Negan?
‘I didn’t really choose it. One of my sons was watching The Walking Dead originally, and Negan turned up. They sent me a picture of him in the woods. I do a little bit of filming as an extra and I wandered when did I do that? Then realised it was Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Loads of people said that I do look like him. That was at the end of 2016 and we first did it sort of, I think January, February 2017. So we’ve done it for a couple of years now.’
Will you continue to cosplay as Negan?
‘This will be the last time I do Negan, he may survive to the next season. But my real interest is Star Wars and Victorian enactment sort of thing, so I might go back to that. It’s been real good, been great fun.
How was your experience meeting Jeffrey Dean Morgan?
‘It was very brief, he is a busy man. He was pleasant enough and he smelt really nice. He looked at me and I looked at him. He said I looked awesome and I said he looked awesome. Apparently, I looked more like Negan than he does. Doesn’t get much better than that’
Have you watched The Walking Dead?
‘Yeah, I have too. Trying to get his voice as close as I can, I’m not an actor. Just trying to get an impression of the character, to get as close as possible’
You mentioned that you will be filming today, how did it go?
‘I haven’t seen them yet, they will probably be around tomorrow. It’s a documentary called invisible heroes, it's about cosplay and mental health, how it helps you. So, it will be an interesting project. It hasn’t been done that I am aware of. As there is a lot of bulling that goes on in cosplay. People don’t go to do cosplay as they been bullied elsewhere. I even get it as Negan’
You come across to me as with a strong personality and you are not going to suffer with that. How do you combat it?
‘I tend to just ignore it, in the earlier days. You wouldn’t believe the jealousy which was absolutely appalling. The abuse, malicious communication, the whole getting the police involved.’
