Newport City Radio has been based here at on the upper floor at the Corn Exchange project since the start of January. I’ve tried (and failed) to keep clear of the building work being completed on what promises to be the most thrilling new music venue in a generation. I’ve been proud to witness its development.

A quick personal history. I’ve been here before. Chicago Rock, as a customer, back in the day. Charter Housing in the 2010s setting up a funded radio training project.

Today, I want to see it and feel it the way you’re about to see it and feel it, and hopefully fall in love with it!

Now it’s launch day. A mega music venue completed within 6 or so months, where usually it takes 18. The first act in are the Bug Club with Getdown services in support.

The Corn Exchange in Newport stands as a testament to the city’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant and resurgent community spirit. Nestled in the heart of Newport, this venue offers a multifaceted experience, seamlessly blending historical charm with modern amenities to cater to a diverse range of events and gatherings.

From outside you are greeted by the grandeur of the Corn Exchange’s architecture. The impressive façade, combining old and new. Once inside, its 2024. The interior is thoroughly modern, with it’s 500 capacity provides a captivating space for many an occasion. One essential  element remains from the Chicago Rock days. The Glitterball!

The Corn Exchange boasts a dedicated team of staff front of house and behind the scenes. Its is clear that they are committed to ensuring that every event is a resounding success. It isn’t their first rodeo. Many of the talents are shared with the Legendary Le Pub.

Of course, no review of the Corn Exchange would be complete without mentioning its prime location. Situated in the heart of Newport, the venue is easily accessible by public transport and offers ample parking facilities nearby. After hours there are plenty of bars and clubs for you to party into the night.

In summary, the Corn Exchange in Newport is a true gem of a venue, and a much needed addition to Newport’s nightlife creating memorable experiences that will be cherished for years to come.
