Callum Richards Was A Guest on Pure Local Extra to Talk About His New Single “Forgetting You.” Here Are 5 Extra Things You Should Know About Callum.

Where Are You From & Where in The World Would You Most Like to Visit?

I come from the Rhondda Valley and I would love to be able to visit Miami some day.

Is There A Famous Song You Wish You Had Written?

I would have loved to have written sultans of swing by dire straits, I actually took direct inspiration from this song when I was writing Forgetting You.

The way that Mark Knopfler plays a new guitar lick after each vocal line in the verse is something that I love about that song, and that’s why there’s a different sounding lead guitar part at the end of each line in my verses in Forgetting You, but please don’t think I’m comparing myself to Mark Knopfler lol!

When Did You Realise That You Wanted To Be a Musician?

Not until I was probably about 17, I only started learning guitar when I was 16. Since being in the industry and working as a professional musician, I have realised that I have taken a very unusual path, as most of my colleagues that I play with at weddings or functions etc all went to uni to study music whereas I went to uni to study engineering, where I thought I’d be following a more traditional ‘day job’ lifestyle. I still work full time, but I’m able to manage a busy gigging and music schedule around it so I think I’ve got the balance just about right.

What Was The First Song You Ever Wrote - Do You Still Play It?

Turn Around, which is a Dragonflies song, was the first song I ever wrote. I still play it live now and it’s nice to listen back to as it immediately takes me back to the smells, sights and feelings etc that I was experiencing at the exact moments of me writing the song. I Don’t think that there’s anything more powerful than music in terms of a vehicle for triggering your mind into transporting you back in time to a specific point in your life.

Your All-Time Favourite Album Is?

“By The Way” by Red Hot Chilli Peppers is my all time favourite album. This was the album that first got me into learning and playing the guitar when I was 16, so I am eternally grateful for it. John Frusciante, the guitar player, remains my favourite guitarist of all time and I’ll be surprised if that ever changes”
