The Celtic Manor Resort has a long and interesting history. The current owner, Sir Terry Matthews was born there when it was a maternity hospital. Formerly known as Coldra Hall, the house was donated to the local authority by Sir John Beynon, a local coal & shipping businessman.
The hospital was named after Sir John’s mother in 1940. Over 60,000 babies were born at the hospital before it closed in 1975.
