Today on the Pure Local Extra show, we were joined by CrazeTheJack (Craig) and Mark Watkin Price, two local artists with completely different styles. We talked to them about their music and other similar topics.

For Craig, this was not his first time on the show, he’s been on before. As for Mark, it was his first time. Craig is a hip hop artist from Swansea and Mark is a singer/songwriter from Cardiff who explores stories in his songs.

Firstly, we discussed their music experience, before and recently. Mark said that he has been playing music for a long time, although he stopped for a bit after having children. Eventually started playing again, he started with playing his own songs on open mic nights before being pushed by his partner to do gigs. He said that it’s a fabulous experience, despite the low pay. Craig said that recently he’s been a bit busy with life to produce new songs as he has young children, but he’s getting there.

We then listened to Craig’s newest song ‘Until The Music’s Cut’. He told us that it’s from his album ‘Resonance’. He said that it’s an upbeat, afro beat track which has themes about balancing performing and family, the overall theme of the album. He added that it’s quite personal as it relates to some of his recent experiences. Afterwards, we listened to one of Mark’s songs, ‘5000 miles’. He told us that the idea for the song came from the phrase ‘5000 miles away from home’ and created a story song about dementia. He added that he doesn’t relate to the song’s meaning in any way but somehow he got the idea.

We briefly discussed upcoming events for both artists. Mark told us that he’s performing at an acoustic night in Treforest in The Green Rooms. As for Craig, he said that, despite his very busy personal life, he’s got a gig in Port Talbot and some recording sessions.

We asked the artists about the instruments they play. Mark said that he knows a bit of piano from childhood, also some banjo and mandolin from playing with a band. Now he is principally 6 string and 12 string guitar. As for Craig, he plays the drums, he gave us a small snippet of this talent on our drum kit just before the show. He also plays a bit of piano and guitar but he’s mostly a sound engineer.

We ended as usual with Kazoo That Tune. We had 2 songs, Craig gave us Baby Shark for his children and Mark gave us All You Need Is Love.
