Well now you do. Tucked into the Welsh countryside is Caerwent, Britain’s only surviving Roman town. Dating back an astonishing 2,000 years, Caerwent isn’t just an archaeological site—it’s a living village where ancient ruins blend with daily life.
Imagine strolling through streets where Roman merchants once traded, past crumbling fortress walls and intricate mosaics that have stood the test of time. What makes it even cooler, though, is locals still walk their dogs along the ancient paths, and children play along the ruins where soldiers once marched.
While Stonehenge might grab the headlines, Caerwent quietly stands as Britain’s best-kept historical secret. If you’re looking for a historical adventure this is the spot to visit!
The production ‘2 Sides of a Coin’ is set to hit theatres in February 2025, but do you know who made the album for it?
It was three young musicians from our very own Newport. Leontay, Evan and Isaac, were mentored by Jamie Winchester of Play it Loud Studios and are bringing a new sound to the production. Combining their creativity the album is a fresh blend of grime and modern soundscapes. Pairing well with the production, which focuses on themes like crime, poverty and education.
Mr Winchester said: “Working with these young artists has been an inspiring journey. Their passion and creativity have produced something truly special, and I’m confident the music will resonate deeply with audiences.”
The play and album will debut 17th February 2026. Tickets are available now through the Riverfront Arts Centre, where you can also purchase the album.
Guess what?
Newport is getting its very own leisure centre.
But not just any leisure centre, this one is special. Why? You ask? Well, this one doesn’t just have a pool, but it’s got slides, a lazy pool AND a load of fun play equipment. There will also be a ton of fun activities that YOU can take part in, there’s swimming lessons, which you can check out at https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/24595295.newport-new-net-zero-leisure-centre-construction-update/ exercise sessions, modern changing facilities, a café and relaxation area, fitness suite, and a large active space for community use, group activities and children’s birthday parties.
Not only this, but the project, which was given funding in September will create 400 new jobs, which Chris Wynne, the managing director says he wants to give at least 40% of, to locals.
He says
‘’Beyond job creation, we are also committed to fostering community engagement and sustainable practices within our supply chain, ensuring that the project leaves a lasting, positive impact in the region.”
The project is said to be completed by 2026. We’re excited, are you?
