On the 16th of November, the Pure Local Extra show at Newport City Radio had another local musician in for a chat about herself and music. Today it was Caitlin Mae, however, the interview was presented slightly differently. Caitlin is based in Nashville but has been travelling around recently for playing shows, festivals and interviews. In her already busy schedule, she found time to be interviewed for our show but couldn’t make it to be live, so instead, we pre-recorded the interview and played it on Saturday.
Firstly, she talked a little about how it’s been back in Wales after moving to the states. Mainly that it’s amazing seeing everyone again but also about how hard it was to plan a trip home which would work with being able to see everyone again and with her music releases. She said that 2024 has been a year of first experiences and that she hopes 2025 to be the same.
Seeing as she has an incredibly busy schedule, Kym asked how she gets her energy to do so much. She said that most of her energy goes into the art and that ending up with something she’s proud of is worth it but then gives her the motivation to make more. She added that she also loves the journey and taking every opportunity.
She talked about some of the things that happened in 2024. She said that she’s been able to attend shows at the Grand Opry. Starting off as a backstage pass and then getting to meet people who performed there. She added that it was one of the best things she got to do.
She went on to talk about what she misses about the UK. The obvious is friends and family. The second is certain foods, an example she gave is parma violets. She added that her mum sends her care packages every month of sweet treats that she requests as well as some surprises.Â
Finally, Caitlin spoke about music in general. She said that live music brings people together and you can relate to certain music. She also said that it’s great that she’s been able to keep in contact with everyone that she’s met.Â
