Pride is Coming to the Port

Newport is set to host UK Pride in 2026, and it’s going to be amazing! Pride in the Port will bring the UK’s biggest LGBTQ+ celebration to the city, with a vibrant parade, live performances, and all the inclusivity that Pride is known for.

The UK Pride Organisers Website pick an organisation every year that they feel has shown true dedication and commitment to the Pride movement in the UK, which is why its such an honour that they have chose Pride in the Port.

This is a major milestone for Newport, and organisers are already buzzing with excitement. Mark your calendars for 2026 – it’s shaping up to be an unforgettable event!

Close Call for The Cambrian

Good news for Newport – plans to turn a historic hotel in the city into flats have been refused! The proposal for the Grade II-listed Cambrian Hotel, a well-known building in the heart of Newport, has hit a roadblock. Despite the idea of transforming the space into modern apartments, concerns over preserving the hotel’s unique character and heritage won out.

The decision has sparked a bit of debate, with many arguing that the building should be protected and not lost to redevelopment. Looks like this piece of Newport history will remain standing for now, at least until new ideas come along!

The Big Tackle on The Trollies..

A local group in Newport has been making a real difference by clearing out abandoned shopping trolleys from the Lliswerry and Pill Reen areas.

A member of the group uses fishing magnets to help remove litter from the river, and says he donates the money he makes off the scrap metal to buy food for food banks in Newport.

The group’s efforts are helping clean up the waterways and make the area look a whole lot better, and they urge others to be more mindful of the community and environment before littering. It’s a great example of community spirit in action, with volunteers rolling up their sleeves and tackling the eyesore head-on. Way to go, Newport!
