Comic Con Wales takes over Newport

For the 4th successive year Monopoly Events brought the stars of big screen, small screen and gaming to Newport for Comic Con Wales.

ICC makes great host venue

Once again I felt that the ICCW made a perfect setting for such an event with dozens of rooms being used all for different purposes. The main convention room was packed full of goodies for sale with everything from wrestling figures and pop vinyl’s to signed scripts and even potions. It was a true celebration of pop culture where movie magic, comic book artistry, and fandoms collided in the most spectacular way possible.

Newport is represented throughout

As I walked up from the car park I was greeted to live wrestling courtesy of Newport based promotion Exposure Wrestling. The outdoor environment in the heat of Saturday afternoon provided a perfect backdrop for Wrestling!

You dressed to impress!

What really struck me was the amount of top quality cosplay on show. There was a wide range of characters that people decided to dress up as with people like Chewbacca, David Tennant’s Doctor Who and even a person with a lego head on his head. The creativity was off the charts.

The personal touch

Despite a few late cancellations by guests such as Trish Stratus and Hadji Jeter there was a star studded line up of guests including Billie Piper, Lita, David Bradley and two that I personally met, Will Mellor and Ricky Tomlinson. From my experience both were incredible and gave up plenty of time to talk to each person which gave the time a personal touch.

Another experience that will last with people for a long time is the panels that they held at the event. Most if not all guests participated in different panels throughout the weekend which allowed fans to put those burning questions to rest and another way to interact with their favourite stars.

Overall Comic Con Wales in 2025 was a massive success with thousands of pop culture fans descending on Newport from all over the UK for a weekend of celebration. Year on year this event has grown and I can’t wait to see what 2026 looks like.
