ovember may have only just started, but it's time to start thinking about Christmas. Some Santa events have already sold out! Here are my top picks of Santa experiences in and around Newport.
The Celtic Manor is back with their annual Santa’s grotto experience. While waiting to visit Santa, children can enjoy watching a video message from Santa’s Chief Elf and posting a letter to the North Pole. Each child will also decorate a sweet treat to take home with them.
The decoration and settings are always magical at Celtic Manors events and it is a memorable experience for the whole family. After meeting Santa, and receiving a gift, children can finish their experience by visiting the reindeer, who are relaxing ready for their busiest night of the year.
Prices for this experience start at £13 per child. This is one of the most popular Santa experiences in Newport, and in previous years tickets have sold out quickly for key dates. This is definitely one to book early. Ice skating and The Bratwurst Hut are also available to compliment your visit.
If you have a bigger budget, team your visit to Santa with a delicious Afternoon Tea served at one of the Resort’s restaurants. Full details can be found on the website.
Traditional Christmas cheer descends on Tredegar House during the festive season. This experience is like stepping back in time as the house is filled with music, laughter, and merriment.
Carols, period costume and traditional decorations will fill the house, making for a truly memorable experience. Visitors can try their hand at making traditional decorations such as a pomander and paper garlands.
While exploring the house, you can warm up with a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie, before adding a wish to the wishing tree. You are also invited to bring along a small give that can be donated to those less fortunate this Christmas.
Normal admission price to the house applies, along with £3 per child to visit Santa, and £1 per child if they wish to create a pomander.
Full details on times and dates can be found on the National Trust website. Pre-booking is not available for this event and tickets for Santa will be given on a first-come-first-served basis.
This festive period, you can have a pre-Christmas visit from the big man right in your own home. Bounce‘n’Play South Wales are offering home visit experiences in Newport and Pontypool, starting at, a very reasonable, £12.
If the thought of another year trekking out into the cold and queueing for ages behind squealing children doesn’t appeal, then this is a great alternative. Just imagine the look on the children’s faces when they open the door to Santa and one of his elves.
A great part of this experience is that you can tailor it to your own budget. The cheapest option is £12, plus £2 each for any additional children; for this, you get a ten to fifteen-minute visit with a small gift off Santa, and a chance to have photos. Details of other price options can be found on the website.
Due to high demand, I recommend you book early to avoid disappointment. They currently have availability on the 19th, 20th & 21st December, along with some dates earlier in the month.
Just outside of Newport, Llanyrafon Manor provides an immersive Christmas experience which starts as you go through the door. Start your journey with the elves and warm up by the fire. Children will then enjoy stories and songs as they get to spend around half an hour with Santa.
A good part of this experience is that there are no hidden costs. £15 gets you entry to the experience and a small gift. You are welcome to bring your own camera or use your phone to capture the moment.
Santa’s grotto is available every weekend and selected evenings through December. See the website for full details and to book your tickets.
Llanyrafon manor also offers a Sensory Santa experience for children with additional needs.
A lot of time and consideration seems to have been put into these to make them accessible to all. Full details about this can be found on the event page.
