Yesterday us Whovians, worldwide were treated to our very first look at Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor, in costume. As usual many fans didn’t really take it whilst others did. In my opinion it look as though the wardrobe department at BBC Wales raided New Look and threw whatever they got at Whittaker. But the costume is growing on me. It has that Classic Series look to it with a modern twist.
Not only were we treated to the revelation of the Doctor’s new look but we caught a glimpse at the slight alterations to the TARDIS exterior. Like the costume it too has that look of the Classic Series. I’m thinking 70’s maybe early 1980’s. Upon analysing the publicity image I’ve noticed a few references to the Doctor’s past incarnations. The lining of her long flowing coat is very reminiscent to the one worn by Tom Baker in Destiny of the Daleks and The City of Death (1979). Whilst the pattern on the braces are very similar to the scarf worn by Baker’s incarnation too.
However, the coat seems to be a combination of other past incarnations. The colour of the jacket not only is a nod to Baker’s late 70’s look but it is a nice little reminder of Sylvester McCoy’s grey jacket, not forgetting the length which seems to be fashion since David Tennant’s portrayal of our beloved Time Lord. And who could forget Romana II?
I have noticed however they’re still tying it in with Capaldi’s era with the use of a hoody. It certainly seems that the Doctor has found himself/herself quite fond with the piece of clothing and doesn’t seem to want to let it go, just yet. The high-waisted trousers too is a reference towards the 2nd Doctor’s costume. The braces too is a little nod to Troughton’s Doctor but it can also be perceived as a references to Matt Smith’s era as his Doctor was rather fond of braces. Not forgetting her boots!
Many fans have however noticed other references to other external Science Fiction televised serials and have taken to Twitter to express their realisations!
Whilst another fan joked at the many disapproving fans with the following comedic tweet, I for once would like to see more Doctor Who fans like this and not be terribly against us having a female Doctor as many of those keyboard warriors are. Get a grip I'd say!

Aye pals, nothing ostentatious about Doctor Who at all, ever the conservative dresser. pic.twitter.com/cHC5Gufswr
So without further ado let’s have a look at our new Time Lord or Lady or however you perceive it. I’m personally excited to see her in action. Roll on 2018, I’m also excited to see what Chris Chibnall has in store for us!
I very much like the new Doctor’s outfit, its smart-casual with a hint of the Classic Series. Not to mention the newly slightly altered TARDIS exterior. It has that 1970’s/early 80’s look to it. So we’ve been gifted with the announcement of the new TARDIS crew, the new Doctor’s outfit and a little teaser to the new TARDIS. However now we just have to wait for the revelation of the TARDIS interior and the new Sonic Screwdriver. Which I can see being kept under wraps for quite some time. Time will tell, it always does! And to conclude this blog I shall leave you all with Clothes Maketh the Madame by FiveWhoFans, I like cricket! Enjoy!
