About Greg Ryan at The Phyllis Maud
Newport multi-instrumentalist Greg Ryan is back!
Well, he’s been back for a couple of years, but I mean he’s really back. After a string of singles in 2023 and 2024, including the BBC Radio Wales A-Listed Feel My Way Home, Greg has started 2025 with the release of Mary Anning, a near 6 minute song about the 19th Century English palaeontologist (Mary Anning). We didn’t know of Mary Anning before Greg released this song, but that only highlights Greg’s song writing depth, the power of pop music, and perhaps our ignorance!
What to expect from Greg? Instruments (and lots of them), an extraordinary vocal range, and warm folk-pop songs, delivered with a charismatic smile and a between-song story or two!
Support comes from Ophelia from Ophelia’s Beard. Ophelia isn’t new to Newport, or The Phyllis Maud, supporting The Rogues in the 2023 sell out show, and was a highlight at the inaugural Summer Sessions at Beechwood Park last summer. We are very lucky to be welcoming her back to a city that she loves playing. We think/hope she does anyway!
Also support from folk troubadour and full time van-lifer Robyn Benge, who combines the classic sounds of Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez with that of more contemporary artists like Florence & the Machine and the Lumineers. The singer-songwriter released a trio of singles last year and also featured on Newport City Radio.
