We started the show with Jared’s new song “Magpie” from his upcoming EP. The song started with the idea of an imagined band trying to get onto a radio show in the form of a battle of the bands. The other bands taking part kept taking ideas from the lead band in the song. The chorus sings about The Peter Jones show, which is an actual radio show in Brighton which frequently plays Jared’s songs. The chorus of Magpie is his thank you to Peter and has become a jingle for his show. While we were playing the songs, the story of Magpie reminded Emily of something that happened to her. She told about how someone said to her that she saw someone on TV playing her song in America without credit to Emily.
After Magpie, we listened to Emily’s song “Love Killer”. She gave us some insight into the song and its meaning. The song is about being betrayed, adding that a common theme in her music is bad men. Love Killer follows this theme as it is about a man who went for another woman as opposed to the protagonist of the song.
We then talked about gigs: Jared is in a covers group called the Fishing Trip and they do a couple of gigs. He wants to do more as Blackwood Rediffusion although he finds it harder to do gigs with just himself. As for Emily, she doesn’t gig much. Jared gave her the advice to just get out there and enjoy herself. She said that she wants to go out and do the occasional open mic night and meet people.
We then played Emily’s newest song entitled “X” which also happens to be our record of the week. This song is about a woman leaving a toxic relationship, she wrote it to resonate with someone who might be going through something like this. She added that Ladywolfe is about representing strong women, something which this song highlights.
Our artists then talked about the first song they wrote and whether or not they could remember it. Emily’s first song was written when she was around 12 on a tape recorder. The song has since been put away somewhere and never been performed. Jared was similar in that he used to mess around on a tape recorder. His song Spooks was quite close to the start of him writing music.
As for upcoming music, Emily has her newest single X on every platform and you can find her as Ladywolfe on most Social Media platforms. Jared has a new EP entitled “Haunted by Ghosts” coming out next Friday on all platforms. You can find him as Blackwood Rediffusion on most Social Media platforms.
