ver the past few days, Fall Out Boy have been turning their social media purple with no explanation. I knew straight away that soon we would have some music news from the band – and we have.
On April 27, aka frontman Patrick Stump’s birthday, the band announces their brand new album 'M A N I A.' It is going to be released September 15 – which is quite a way away, but the band have promised a lot of surprised between now and then.
As well as this, the band dropped the first single from the album at the same time as its announcement. The track is titled “Young and Menace” and when I first listened to it, I wasn’t sure. It was Fall Out Boy, but at the same time it wasn’t! After about 65 listens since it was released, I can say that it is one hell of a banger.
Straight away you can hear the new sound that the band is going in with a weird-but-wonderful mix of heavy rock and dubstep throughout this song. When the song gets going in the choruses, it's loud and aggressive and packs one hell of a punch – you can’t help but head bang to it. When I first heard the song, I thought the verses fell flat compared to that screaming chorus. But again after many listens, I like it – the low-key verses help the song build up to the drop of the chorus and gives the song an obvious up and down flow.
The band have also announced a US tour consisting of 20 dates this autumn so it is only a matter of time until the band announce some UK dates. The band have also said that a dollar from every ticket sold is automatically donated to the Fall Out Boy Fund which is a charity they have set up to give back to their home town of Chicago, which I think is a lovely touch.
