ello and welcome back to my monthly music series here on Newport City Radio where I share with you what tracks I have been in love with this past month!
Another month passed, another bunch of bangers that I need to share with you! This month has a right mixture of different things so there should be something for everyone in this edition!
“Temple” - Tonight Alive
As soon as this bad boy dropped I was hooked! This is the first single from the bands upcoming new album and I have literally been obsessed with it! The lyrics are dark as they are about depression and wondering when the pain will end but they are sang to such a catchy and upbeat rock rhythm that on first listen, you may not realise what the lyrics are about.
Speaking of the rhythm, oh my days I can’t get enough of it! No matter where I am I cannot stop myself from bopping along to it! It’s taken me 20 minutes to write this review because I keep stopping to rock out! I just can’t help it! I can guarantee that when you listen to this tune, you will go from head nod to full on Monica Geller dancing!
This song is avast contrast from their last album and is so much more rocker, possibly even grungy - whatever it is I am in love and I cannot wait to hear the rest of the album!
“Hard to Be Myself” - Fickle Friends
Do Fickle Friends want any mash with all these bangers they’re bringing out? This band have been another obsession of mine over the past few months, and they dropped this track last month to add to my playlists!
This is another song with depressive lyrics but I think everyone can identify with the feeling of being left out and not being able to be yourself around certain people that this song portrays. It also has another upbeat rhythm full of synths and and electronic beats that are just glorious to listen to.
“One Foot” - Walk the Moon
Another one of my favourite bands are finally back on the music scene with them releasing 3 songs in the space of a months! That made me a very happy Shannon! However, this track is my favourite so far!
I few days before this dropped, I had read an article headline that said “Walk the Moon go back to rock roots in new album” - so I was expecting to hear heavy guitars and banging drums when I first played this song. It is so far from rock! (Just goes to show that you shouldn’t believe everything you read - also they have never really been a rock band anyways!)
This song is just a pure bop! It has some great electric beats mixed banging drums and strumming guitar that will just make up bounce along! Walk the Moon are most certainly back!
“The Last of the Real Ones” - Fall Out Boy
This song from Fall Out Boy was released in September but it completely went under my radar! I had no idea it was out! But once I had discovered this corker I have been hooked!
This song is immediately different from the two previous heavy tracks they have already released from their upcoming new album The song opens with some quick and punchy piano which to be honest took me by surprise when I first listened to it! I certainly wasn’t expecting that! However, the song kicks into overdrive in the chorus and oh boy what a TUNE!
I am so in love with the extreme guitars and thumping drums mixed with this bouncy piano tune! There is something so majestic about it that makes the song rise to the drop and fall back to the calm and back again!
“It’s a Shame” - First Aid Kit
Yes a country song! Although technically it is also indie… but yes, I have loved First Aid Kit from their last album so when this song dropped I was oh so excited!
And I wasn’t disappointed! I just love the angelic vocals these girls have as well their slight country swag. The harmonies the band create are just beautiful to listen to. They always write such emotive lyrics too and this song is no exception. It is about having to let go of things in the past and how hard it can be.
I thoroughly recommend First Aid Kit, and thats coming from someone who doesn’t really like country music!
