The Dalmatian Bike Ride 2024 smashed its fundraising goal, raking in an incredible fifty one thousand five hundred and forty three pounds for charity!
This year’s ride was extra special, with over £14,000 raised in memory of Nichala June Gallivan, a beloved teacher and mum from Newport who passed away in March. Her family and friends, “Team Nic,” went all out—festive jumpers, bucket collections, and sheer determination—to raise twenty five thousand five hundred and six pounds for St David’s Hospice Care.
Huge kudos to all the riders, supporters, and sponsors who made this happen! Want to join next year? Check out Dalmatian Bike Ride.
Listen up Newport because the city’s Lunar New Year celebrations are back this Saturday, February 1st—bigger and better than ever!Â
Kick things off at 10 AM with a vibrant Lion dance parade from Friars Walk to The Riverfront Theatre. Then, from 11 AM to 4 PM, enjoy free crafts, performances, face painting, and a bustling Chinese food market.
The day wraps up with a stunning serpent fire sculpture and The Ballad of Mulan show. Don’t miss out—let’s welcome the Year of the Snake in style!Â
Local artist Terence Broughton has turned a boarded-up shop into a stunning mural celebrating our city’s history. Featuring landmarks like the Transporter Bridge and Westgate Hotel, it’s bringing color and pride to the high street!Â
This isn’t just about brightening up empty spaces—it’s a powerful tribute to Newport’s heritage, especially after the loss of the Chartist Mural in 2013. Next time you’re in town, stop by and see this incredible artwork for yourself!Â
Some exciting changes are coming as the latest planning decisions shape our city’s future.
The old dairy on Cardiff Road is set for a makeover, soon to be a stylish café and community hub—perfect for coffee and catch-ups! Meanwhile, a vacant city center shop will become a vibrant art gallery, adding creativity to our high street.
Over in Maindee, a derelict plot on Chepstow Road is being transformed into affordable housing, bringing new life to the area. It’s great to see Newport growing and evolving—watch this space!
