About Spring walks at RSPB Newport Wetlands
This is the perfect opportunity to learn all about the iconic Bittern and wonderfully sounding Cuckoo. Newport Wetlands has resident bitterns that can be seen all year round but more regularly during the springtime as males boom across the reserve to attract a female. At the same time, we see and hear cuckoos that have made their way back from Africa to breed. We’ll start the morning with a presentation where you will be introduced to the species and the vital work being done to help the species recover and increase the populations. We will then head out onto the reserve and hopefully be lucky enough to hear a male bittern booming and a cuckoo calling.
If we are lucky, we might spot one or both! But this is not guaranteed. We will be on the lookout for all wildlife as Spring has so much to offer.
