About Torchlit March in the Footsteps of the Chartists | 186th Anniversary Celebrations
Newport Rising Festival | Annual Torchlit March in the Footsteps of the Chartists
Join us for the iconic Torchlit March, a powerful and moving highlight of the Newport Rising Festival. Arrive at Belle Vue Park Pavilion from 4:30 PM to soak in the atmosphere with live performances, including fire displays and music. Be sure to arrive in plenty of time to collect your torch, with food and refreshments available from Belle Vue Tea Rooms.
The march will begin around 6:00 PM, as we follow in the footsteps of the Chartists, making our way down Stow Hill towards Westgate Square. The march culminates at Westgate Square at approximately 7:00 PM, where the evening will continue with a spectacular finale. With powerful drumming from Barracwda, vibrant performances from special guests TBA.
This is more than just a march—it’s a commemoration of the past, a celebration of community, and a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of the Chartists on the 186th anniversary of the Newport Rising. Join us and be part of this extraordinary event.
*Please note* This event is free to attend, but optional Wax torches must be purchased through www.newportrising.co.uk if you would like to carry one. Torch sales help to cover festival costs and the festival is operated on a not-for-profit basis. No alternative sources of flame are allowed during the event. Strict safety instructions will be provided and must be followed. Torches must be collected from Belle Vue Park and we kindly request that you arrive early to ensure you have enough time to collect your torch before the march begins.
